TNO is one of the major independent contract research organisations in Europe. With a staff of approximately 2,600 and an annual turnover of 426 million euros, TNO is carrying out research in order to achieve impact within the following nine areas: Healthy Living; Industry; Traffic & Transport; Energy; Buildings; Infrastructure & Maritime; Information & Communication Technology; Defence, Safety and Security; Circular Economy & Environment; and Strategic Analysis & Policy.

TNO functions as an intermediary between research organisations and industry. By translating scientific knowledge into practical applications, TNO contributes to the innovation capacity of businesses and government. TNO is involved in many international projects (about 30% of the market turnover), including EU-funded collaborations. In the theme of Traffic and Transport applied research is carried out for the mobility & logistics industry and related branches. The expertise covers relevant technological aspects as well as the influence of human behaviour. The focus is on innovation in the areas of lean, safe, reliable and affordable mobility and logistics. Theme safety and Security covers the area of cybersecurity.

Role in the project
For DIAS TNO offers its expertise with EU policy advice, vehicle testing and emission control systems. Last year TNO reported to the Dutch Ministry about the problem of manipulation of SCR systems and DPFs and about solutions to deal with the problem. One of the solutions evaluated and expected to be very effective is to harden vehicle board systems against tampering. TNO is leading WP3 Market, testing and evaluation, and is also involved in the WP1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.
